According to Alexander Neckam's De naturis rerum (ca 1180), it was supposed to be born from an egg laid by a cock and incubated by a toad; a snake might be substituted in re-tellings. "

The cousins loved their costumes and had a ton of fun being recognized in their costumes, everyone seemed to know who they were right off the bat. which was great. I'm thinking paper mache stormtroopers next year! haha....kidding.
